Alby PtX and Big Akwa Announce Strategic Partnership for Industrial Symbiosis
PRESS RELEASE
Alby PtX AB and Big Akwa AB (publ) are pleased to announce the signing of a Strategic Partner Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore a long-term strategic cooperation aimed at leveraging industrial symbiosis. This partnership will focus on utilizing shared resources, by-products, and infrastructure to create mutual value, reduce energy consumption, minimize environmental impact, and enhance overall efficiency.
Co-owned by Prime Capital and Norsk e-Fuel and supported by RES, Alby PtX brings together the partners’ expertise to develop an industrial-scale e-Fuel plant producing sustainable aviation fuel. Big Akwa plans to establish a land-based aquaculture facility in proximity to Alby PtX’s operations. In collaboration with Alby PtX, the project could integrate surplus oxygen and waste heat from the nearby e-Fuel production to oxygenate and regulate the temperature of the fish water, improving overall energy efficiency. Downstream, nutrient-rich effluents and organic residues from the aquaculture could be recovered and converted into valuable bio-based products.
Key Highlights of the Partnership
- Surplus oxygen could be used both to oxygenate the fish farm water and in aerobic fermentation processes to convert nutrient-rich effluents into valuable bio-based products such as microbial biomass for feed or fertilizers.
- Waste Heat Utilization: Alby PtX’s waste heat will be used to dry fish sludge, dry or pre-process SCP biomass, and maintain optimal temperatures in certain aquaculture systems.
- Mutual Benefits: The partnership will create mutual value, reduce energy consumption, and minimize environmental impact.
“We are excited to partner with Big Akwa to explore the potential of industrial symbiosis. This collaboration aligns with our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Lars-Bjørn Larsen, Board Member of Alby PtX AB.
“Through the integration of Alby PtX’s surplus heat and oxygen, we could turn industrial by-products into valuable resources. This partnership demonstrates how collaboration can drive sustainable food production” says Elena Petukhovskaya, CEO of Big Akwa AB (publ).
Magnus Mattsson, Work Stream Leader Alby PtX, concludes, “This is a significant step forward towards Alby industrial park. The symbiosis provided will drive energy efficiency and hence support the green transition. It will also create important socioeconomic opportunities in the Ånge region.”
